Holy Myrrhbearers Orthodox Mission Established in Toronto

June 4, 2016

On Sunday 15 May, the Third Sunday of Pascha, the English mission project of Christ the Saviour Cathedral was relaunched as a new English mission church dedicated to the Holy Myrrhbearers, the first witnesses to the joyful resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ and the 'apostles to the apostles'.

Sunday services begin every week at 9am with Mattins (Orthros), with the Divine Liturgy starting around 10am. Services are held in the chapel of Trinity College, University of Toronto, at 6 Hoskin Avenue (south of Bloor Street, just west of Queen's Park). Additional weekday services are held in conjunction with the Orthodox School of Theology at Trinity College (a graduate Orthodox studies programme) and Orthodox Christian Fellowship at U of T.

Under the guidance of the Very Rev Archpriest Geoffrey Ready, the new mission will strive to be faithful to the vision of the early apostolic church, focusing on Orthodox Christian witness, outreach, teaching and service as the natural outcome of our life-transforming Orthodox liturgical tradition. We will endeavour to be pan-Orthodox in scope, supporting, strengthening and uniting Orthodox churches and people across Toronto, and making "equipping the saints for the work of ministry, for building up the body of Christ" (Ephesians 4.12) a primary objective of our labours.

Please assist our new mission with your prayerful support and generous offerings. Through the prayers of the holy myrrhbearing women, in keeping with their faithful and loving apostolic service, and by God's immeasurable grace, may we together build for the Kingdom of God which He has granted us and which we have been called to manifest to the world.
